One Guy, One Path

Landscape Architecture MagazineVol 102 #7 Pages 55-77July, 2012by Melanie RehakEverything you need to know about the Stone River project by Jon Piasecki, ASLA, you can see in the sinuous lines that join each stone he has laid against another along 900 feet of forest floor in eastern New York. The lines, to work the metaphor, are like river boundaries between eastern states. They show where Piasecki has subdued two very obstinate pieces of mica schist into a larger union of stones that unfurl as a path into the woods and seemingly splash against the remnant boulders of an old dry-stacked farm wall. To get a sense of Piasecki’s accomplishment, try lifting one of the stones yourself-and another, and another, for two and a half years.
