The lines, to work the metaphor, are like river boundaries between eastern states. They show where Piasecki has subdued two very obstinate pieces of mica schist into a larger union of stones that unfurl as a path into the woods and seemingly splash against the remnant boulders of an old dry-stacked farm wall. To get a sense of Piasecki’s accomplishment, try lifting one of the stones yourself-and another, and another, for two and a half years.
